Different Types of Computer Viruses
There are Different Types of Computer Viruses could be classified in (origin, techniques, types of files they infect, where they hide, the kind of damage they cause, the type of operating system or platform they attack) etc. Let us have a look at them…
Enlarge ImageComputer Virus is a kind of malicious software written intentionally to enter a computer without the user’s permission or knowledge, with an ability to replicate itself, thus continuing to spread. Some viruses do little but replicate others can cause severe harm or adversely effect program and performance of the system. A virus should never be assumed harmless and left on a system. Most common types of viruses are mentioned below:
Resident Viruses
This type of virus is a permanent which dwells in the RAM memory. From there it can overcome and interrupt all of the operations executed by the system: corrupting files and programs that are opened, closed, copied, renamed etc.
Examples include: Randex, CMJ, Meve, and MrKlunky.
Direct Action Viruses
The main purpose of this virus is to replicate and take action when it is executed. When a specific condition is met, the virus will go into action and infect files in the directory or folder that it is in and in directories that are specified in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file PATH. This batch file is always located in the root directory of the hard disk and carries out certain operations when the computer is booted.
Overwrite Viruses
Virus of this kind is characterized by the fact that it deletes the information contained in the files that it infects, rendering them partially or totally useless once they have been infected.
The only way to clean a file infected by an overwrite virus is to delete the file completely, thus losing the original content.
Examples of this virus include: Way, Trj.Reboot, Trivial.88.D.
Boot Virus
This type of virus affects the boot sector of a floppy or hard disk. This is a crucial part of a disk, in which information on the disk itself is stored together with a program that makes it possible to boot (start) the computer from the disk.
The best way of avoiding boot viruses is to ensure that floppy disks are write-protected and never start your computer with an unknown floppy disk in the disk drive.
Examples of boot viruses include: Polyboot.B, AntiEXE.
Macro Virus
Macro viruses infect files that are created using certain applications or programs that contain macros. These mini-programs make it possible to automate series of operations so that they are performed as a single action, thereby saving the user from having to carry them out one by one.
Examples of macro viruses: Relax, Melissa.A, Bablas, O97M/Y2K.
Directory Virus
Directory viruses change the paths that indicate the location of a file. By executing a program (file with the extension .EXE or .COM) which has been infected by a virus, you are unknowingly running the virus program, while the original file and program have been previously moved by the virus.
Once infected it becomes impossible to locate the original files.
Polymorphic Virus
Polymorphic viruses encrypt or encode themselves in a different way (using different algorithms and encryption keys) every time they infect a system.
This makes it impossible for anti-viruses to find them using string or signature searches (because they are different in each encryption) and also enables them to create a large number of copies of themselves.
Examples include: Elkern, Marburg, Satan Bug, and Tuareg.
File Infectors
This type of virus infects programs or executable files (files with an .EXE or .COM extension). When one of these programs is run, directly or indirectly, the virus is activated, producing the damaging effects it is programmed to carry out. The majority of existing viruses belong to this category, and can be classified depending on the actions that they carry out.
Companion Viruses
Companion viruses can be considered file infector viruses like resident or direct action types. They are known as companion viruses because once they get into the system they "accompany" the other files that already exist. In other words, in order to carry out their infection routines, companion viruses can wait in memory until a program is run (resident viruses) or act immediately by making copies of themselves (direct action viruses).
Some examples include: Stator, Asimov.1539, and Terrax.1069
FAT Virus
The file allocation table or FAT is the part of a disk used to connect information and is a vital part of the normal functioning of the computer.
This type of virus attack can be especially dangerous, by preventing access to certain sections of the disk where important files are stored. Damage caused can result in information losses from individual files or even entire directories.
Worms
A worm is a program very similar to a virus; it has the ability to self-replicate, and can lead to negative effects on your system and most importantly they are detected and eliminated by antiviruses.
Examples of worms include: PSWBugbear.B, Lovgate.F, Trile.C, Sobig.D, Mapson.
Trojans or Trojan Horses
Another unsavory breed of malicious code are Trojans or Trojan horses, which unlike viruses do not reproduce by infecting other files, nor do they self-replicate like worms.
Logic Bombs
They are not considered viruses because they do not replicate. They are not even program

Essential Life Skills For Personal Growth and Development
We all want to live well and make the most of our lives. If we want to accomplish it effectively and to our full potential we must be able to put into practice the necessary life skills.
As with any job, sport or discipline, in order to be proficient at it, you must acquire and master the requisite skills. Living life fully and productively is no different.
Where do you begin?
You begin by establishing a firm foundation. That foundation is "you". You must know who you are, what you want, and what you are capable of. You must then determine which values, goals and principles you will set up to guide your actions.
Learning about and applying the life skills will help you:
know and understand yourself better
live life more consciously and deliberately
attain personal satisfaction and fulfillment.
Often, the hardest part in any endeavor is getting started, however once you do, there is a surprising snowball effect. You begin to feel good about what you’re doing and you want to continue. You want to improve yourself and you want to be a better you.
As you embark on the road to personal development you become aware that there is so much knowledge and information to be discovered and uncovered; knowledge about yourself, knowledge about others, knowledge about life and the world around you.
According to Aristotle: "All men by nature desire knowledge."
Personal growth and development is about desiring and pursuing knowledge.
To assist you in your pursuit of knowledge and in expanding your horizons, I encourage you to read and explore the pages on the arts, philosophy, and sports .
Sometimes we underestimate how much they contribute to personal growth and development and the balancing of the personality.
Enjoy also the inspirational quotes, and personal development articles that include tips and strategies, as well as other interesting resources.
Acquiring Essential Life Skills will not only contribute to your personal growth and development, it will make you a more interesting and dynamic individual.
Why are these skills essential?
Because without having developed them, you will always feel that something is missing in your life. What good is all the financial success in the world if you don't love yourself, know yourself, know what you really want or what you're doing here? We've all witnessed many outwardly successful and famous people who have not been able to find personal happiness. No amount of fame or fortune could fill the void they felt inside.
Therefore, in order to enjoy the fruits of any achievement we must first be happy with ourselves and possess the following:
A healthy Self-Concept which includes the three skills of:
1. Know Yourself,
2. Love Yourself,
3. Be True To Yourself.
Critical Thinking is needed to work on developing and honing the rest of the skills including:
4. Having A Personal Value System,
5. Perspective,
6. Have An Open Mind,
7. Sense Of Humor,
8. Resilience,
9. Acceptance.
Personal development is an ongoing process and journey. As Robert Louis Stevenson said:
"To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life."

10 Ways To Improve Your Personality
Contrary to what you may believe, you can improve your personality.
"We continue to shape our personality all our life. If we knew ourselves perfectly, we should die." Albert Camus
The "personality" is the typical pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaviors that make a person unique.
When we say that someone has a "good personality" we mean that they are likeable, pleasant to be around, and good to socialize with.
Everyone wants to be attractive to others. Having a good personality helps - perhaps even more so than good looks.
While we can improve our looks to only a certain extent, we can work on improving the personality as much as we want.
Here are some ways in which we can accomplish this:
Be a better listener. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was considered one of the most charming women in the world because she cultivated the skill of being an exceptional listener. She would look a person in the eyes and hang on their every word. Nothing is more appealing than having someone listening to you intently and making you feel like you’re the only person in the world.
Read More and Expand Your Interests. The more you read and interests you have, the more interesting you are to others. It also gives you the opportunity to meet people and share or exchange your views with them.
Be a good conversationalist. This relates to how much you read and know. Once you have much to contribute, learn how to talk about it with others. We can’t know everything, so it’s refreshing to learn about things we don’t have time to read about from others. If you’re shy join a group like Toastmasters that encourages you to talk about what you know.
Have an Opinion. There’s nothing more tiresome than trying to talk to someone who has no opinion on anything. A conversation has nowhere to go if you have nothing to expound on. When you have a differing opinion, it makes you that much more interesting and stimulating to be around (unless you’re a know-it-all, of course). A unique outlook expands everyone’s perspective.
Meet New People. Make the effort to meet new people especially those different from you. It not only exposes you to different cultures and alternate ways of doing things, it broadens your horizons.
Be yourself. The next most tiresome thing after having no opinions is to try and be something you’re not. Trying to mold yourself to fit in and be accepted usually backfires. Everyone is unique and expressing that uniqueness is what makes us interesting. If we try to be a carbon copy of someone else, the lack of genuineness comes across.
Have a positive outlook and attitude. No one wants to be around people who are negative, complain a lot, or have nothing good to say. In fact most of us run when we see them coming. Be the kind of upbeat person that lights up a room with your energy. You can do this by looking for the best in people and things.
Be fun and see the humorous side of life. We all like to be around someone who makes us laugh or smile. Look for the humorous or quirky side in situations. There always is one. When you are fun and lighthearted people are naturally attracted to you.
Be supportive of others. This is probably the most endearing quality you can integrate into your personality. Just as you welcome it when you receive it, be the support for others when they need it. Everyone wants a cheerleader, someone who encourages and believes in them, in their corner.
Have Integrity and treat people with respect. Be honest and true to your word and you will have the admiration and respect of others. Respect others and you will have their attention and gratitude. Nothing improves a person’s personality more than integrity and respect - respect for others as well as respect for yourself.
As humans we have the power and ability to shape our personalities however we wish. When we strive to develop them to encompass all that we can be, we contribute to others and our own happiness.

Build a career in ERP
Build a career in ERP
ENTERPRISE Resource Planning, or ERP for short, denotes a software application that allows an organisation (or enterprise) to effectively and efficiently manage its resources. The resource could be manpower, raw material, vehicles, equipment and finances to name a few. Some leading software solution providers have developed ERP packages, which now form the backbone of several large organisations. ERP packages comprise several modules that can be used either in a stand-alone mode or in conjunction with one or more of the other modules. Oracle 11i, SAP, J D Edwards and People-soft are some of the popular ERP applications. These packages have found ready acceptance amongst several large and medium enterprises, and in return have helped the organisations achieve an optimal level of performance in their respective areas.
Demand for these applications is increasing by the day, primarily because of the huge potential they hold out for users. Such an exponential growth has created job opportunities for professionals opting for a career in ERP Package implementation and maintenance.
The ERP scenario primarily offers two types of job options -- that of the Functional Consultant and the Technical Consultant. There would also be other parallel openings in the fields of database administration, systems administration, software testing and network administration. Barring the first two, all the other jobs are more generic in nature and pertain to the software field as a whole.
Functional Consultant: These professionals require a fair understanding of and experience in a particular physical process. For example, an ERP package implementation in a pharmaceutical company would require functional consultants experienced in finance, HR, pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, procurement processes, inventory management, customer relationship, supply chain management, etc.
The functional consultant would thus be a person who analyses the business process of an organisation and designs the process flow of a particular business area.
A functional consultant should ideally be an MBA in the business area he is functioning in; and should have undergone a training session in the ERP, which he is implementing. Solution providers hold training sessions in their respective areas. For example, SAP conducts training modules for functional consultants in all the different business areas involved in a programme. These courses are, however, costly. A minimum of two to three years' experience in the relevant functional area is mandatory. As for monetary benefits, pay scales start from about Rs.15,000+ per month.
Senior consultants may also be employed as architects to design and implement the entire ERP package for an organisation. Pay scales for seniors are generally very high, ranging between 500,000 and a million rupees per annum.
Technical Consultant: Technical consultants basically are software developers or IT professionals. Their task involves development of forms and reports based on inputs provided by a functional consultant. These professionals need to code the business requirements into the software and integrate them to form a contiguous package.
Typically, you should be a graduate in computer sciences to qualify for the position of a technical consultant. You should also have taken part in a training programme conducted by the respective ERP developer. Experience is not an issue at the entry level. However, senior developers and system integrators need to possess at least 5 to 7 years of experience in development. Pay scales vary from about 12,000 rupees per month at the entry stage to 50,000 rupees at the senior level.
A very senior IT professional may qualify as an architect to work along with a functional consultant in designing and implementing the application.
Many job opportunities also exist in the US and other developed countries, where there is a high demand for experienced ERP professionals with good communication skills.
I hope this has given you a better view in making a career choice in ERP.

101 useful Run Commands
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guys do you use the Run feature in Windows XP? For most, this feature remains unused (or rarely used). Why is that? Well, First off nearly all of the Run Commands Correspond to a particular Control Panel Item or a Utility, Tool or Task that can be accessed through Windows. There are, however, tools and utilities that I bet you never knew you had that can be accessed through the Run feature. The main reason most people don't use the Run feature is because they don't know the Commands. So, to solve that problem, I decided to put together the following listing, which lists 101 Run Commands and what they correspond too...

MOTHERBOARD
Key elements on motherboard
Jasjot Singh Narula
WHEN a buyer moves out in the market to purchase a personal computer, his thrust is on the processor speed, higher RAM and maximum storage capacity. The buyer often lets the vendor choose the motherboard, who more often than not, gives to the client what suits his own business interest.
Motherboard is a multi-layered Printed Circuit Board (PCB) that holds all key components like BIOS, CMOS, Processor, RAM, Interface controllers and ports that are plugged onto the motherboard. It acts as a direct channel for various components to interact and communicate with each other.
The first motherboard came into existence with the introduction of desktop PCs by IBM in 1981 that revolutionised the computer industry. In 1982, IBM launched Extended Technology (XT) motherboards and Advanced Technology (AT) motherboards in 1984. These days the ATX (Advanced Technology Extended-style) motherboards, created by Intel in 1995, are in vogue predictably due to their performance.
The following are the various components that fit on a system’s motherboard:
Do’s while purchasing a motherboard
Deal only with a reliable manufacturer.
It must have the same form factor as required by your PC cabinet (i.e. AT or ATX).
Read the manual that comes with your motherboard. It should fully cover the motherboard's settings and specifications.
Check the power supply requirements for AMD processors. Some motherboards have unique requirements.
Avoid tweaking voltages and timings to get more speed (overclocking).
Form factor: The size and shape of the actual motherboard is called form factor. There are different varieties of motherboard available in the market like AT, baby AT, ATX etc. These days, the ATX motherboard is in great demand because of some extra features on it. The onboard ports and connectors give a boost to the performance of the PC.
Processors slot: The market leader in microprocessors, Intel is using FC-PGA copper mine, which operates over a 66 MHz, 100 MHz and 133 MHz system bus. The latest motherboard has zero insertion force (ZIF) socket for both Celeron and Pentium chips called socket-370.
BIOS (Basic Input Output Set-up): This is a small chip on the motherboard that loads the hardware settings required to load various devices like keyboard, monitor or disk drives. Most of the motherboard manufacturers use Award BIOS and AMIBIOS.
CMOS: User may find a shining silver battery on a corner of a motherboard, which powers the CMOS memory and BIOS. CMOS memory usage is to store date, time and system set up parameters.
SIMM/DIMM slots: SIMM means Single Inline Memory Module, while DIMM stands for Dual Inline Memory Module. These slots are for RAM that is Random Access Memory. Usually most of the motherboard has two slots and are up gradable to 512 MB. Users always look out of higher memory for better performance of the PC.
Chipset: There are different models available in the market with the name of chipset like Intel 810, 810e VIA chipset, SiS chipset etc. These chipset are designed to reduce the cost and improve the multimedia capability. These include integrated AGP graphics controller that is optimised to produce smooth performance of 2D and 3D video. It includes an integrated Audio controller that lets the processor work more effectively and decode sound generated by the integrated audio system.
Primary/Secondary ports or IDE drive connector: CD ROM and hard disk drives are connected through this to the IDE connectors. Hard disk is preferably installed on the Primary IDE connector and CD ROM is on secondary IDE drive connector
Floppy drive connector: This port is used for connecting floppy drive to motherboard, to facilitate data exchange.
PCI slots: These are upgradable version of the ISA slots and are known as Peripheral Component Interface with 32-bit of data transfer rate. The devices, which are installed on these slots, are graphic cards, sound cards, internal modem and SCSI cards.
COM/ Serial ports/Parallel port: Communication or serial ports are used for connecting communicating devices like modem and mouse and parallel port is used for external input/output devices like printers and scanners.
USB connectors: Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectors are the latest in the market with the outstanding data transfer speed. The USB devices are Keyboards, mouse, scanners or digital camera.
System Bus: The components inside the computer talk to each other in various different ways. Most of the internal system components, including the processor, cache, memory, expansion cards and storage devices, talk to each other over one or more "buses". A bus, in computer terms, is simply a channel over which information flows between two or more devices (technically, a bus with only two devices on it is considered by some a "port" instead of a bus). These days the latest motherboards are equipped with 133 MHz bus speed.

20 things We didn't know about Windows XP
You've read the reviews and digested the key feature enhancements and operational changes. Now it's time to delve a bit deeper and uncover some of Windows XP's secrets.1. It boasts how long it can stay up. Whereas previous versions of Windows were coy about how long they went between boots, XP is positively proud of its stamina. Go to the Command Prompt in the Accessories menu from the All Programs start button option, and then type 'systeminfo'. The computer will produce a lot of useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep these, type 'systeminfo > info.txt'. This creates a file called info.txt you can look at later with Notepad. (Professional Edition only). 2. You can delete files immediately, without having them move to the Recycle Bin first. Go to the Start menu, select Run... And type ' gpedit.msc'; then select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Windows Explorer and find the Do not move deleted files to the Recycle Bin setting. Set it. Poking around in gpedit will reveal a great many interface and system options, but take care – some may stop your computer behaving as you wish. (Professional Edition only). 3. You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click, and enter 'rundll32.exeuser32.dll, LockWorkStation' in the location field. Give the shortcut a name you like. That's it -- just Double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that's not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same. 4. XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can tickle it and make it disgorge everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word 'hide' and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be your prey, exposed and vulnerable. 5. For those skilled in the art of DOS batch files, XP has a number of interesting new commands. These include 'eventcreate' and 'eventtriggers' for creating and watching system events, 'typeperf' for monitoring performance of various subsystems, and 'schtasks' for handling scheduled tasks. As usual, typing the command name followed by /? Will give a list of options -- they're all far too baroque to go into here. 6. XP has IP version 6 support -- the next generation of IP. Unfortunately this is more than your ISP has, so you can only experiment with this on your LAN. Type 'ipv6 install' into Run... (it's OK, it won't ruin your existing network setup) and then 'ipv6 /?' at the Command line to find out more. If you don't know what IPv6 is, don't worry and don't bother. 7. You can at last get rid of tasks on the computer from the command line by using 'taskkill /pid' and the task number, or just 'tskill' and the process number. Find that out by typing 'tasklist', which will also tell you a lot about what's going on in your system. 8. XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you've got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip files well alone by typing 'regsvr32 /U zipfldr.dll' at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can put things back as they were by typing 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'. 9. XP has ClearType -- Microsoft's anti-aliasing font display technology -- but doesn't have it enabled by default. It's well worth trying, especially if you were there for DOS and all those years of staring at a screen have given you the eyes of an astigmatic bat. To enable ClearType, right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Effects, select ClearType from the second drop-down menu and enable the selection. Expect best results on laptop displays. If you want to use ClearType on the Welcome login screen as well, set the registry entry HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/ControlPanel/Desktop/FontSmoothingType to 2. 10. You can use Remote Assistance to help a friend who's using network address translation (NAT) on a home network, but not automatically. Get your pal to email you a Remote Assistance invitation and edit the file. Under the RCTICKET attribute will be a NAT IP address, like 192.168.1.10. Replace this with your chum's real IP address -- they can find this out by going to WWW.ip2location.Com -- and get them to make sure that they've got port 3389 open on their firewall and forwarded to the errant computer. 11. You can run a program as a different user without logging out and back in again. Right click the icon, select Run As... And enter the user name and password you want to use. This only applies for that run. The trick is particularly useful if you need to have Administrative permissions to install a program, which many require. Note that you can have some fun by running programs multiple times on the same system as different users, but this can have unforeseen effects. 12. Windows XP can be very insistent about you checking for auto updates, registering a Passport, using Windows Messenger and so on. After a while, the nagging goes away, but if you feel you might slip the bonds of sanity before that point, run Regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Advanced and create a DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips with a value of 0. 13. You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run... from the start menu and type 'control userpasswords2', which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use. 14. Internet Explorer 6 will automatically delete temporary files, but only if you tell it to. Start the browser, select Tools / Internet Options... and Advanced, go down to the Security area and check the box to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when Browser is closed. 15. XP comes with a free Network Activity Light, just in case you can't see the LEDs twinkle on your network card. Right click on My Network Places on the desktop, then select Properties. Right click on the description for your LAN or dial-up connection, select Properties, then check the Show icon in notification area when connected box. You'll now see a tiny network icon on the right of your task bar that glimmers nicely during network traffic. 16. The Start Menu can be leisurely when it decides to appear, but you can speed things along by changing the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay from the default 400 to something a little snappier. Like 0. 17. You can rename loads of files at once in Windows Explorer. Highlight a set of files in a window, then right click on one and rename it. All the other files will be renamed to that name, with individual numbers in brackets to distinguish them. Also, in a folder youCan arrange icons in alphabetised groups by View, Arrange Icon By... Show In Groups. 18. Windows Media Player will display the cover art for albums as it plays the tracks -- if it found the picture on the Internet when you copied the tracks from the CD. If it didn't, or if you have lots of pre-WMP music files, you can put your own copy of the cover art in the same directory as the tracks. Just call it folder.jpg and Windows Media Player will pick it up and display it. 19. Windows key + Break brings up the System Properties dialogue box; Windows key + D brings up the desktop; Windows key + Tab moves through the taskbar buttons. 20. The next release of Windows XP, codenamed Longhorn, is due out late next year or early 2006 and won't be much to write home about. The next big release is codenamed Blackcomb and will be out in 2003/2007
KeyBoard ShortCuts
What is the allure of keyboard shortcuts?
Do they really save time? Why bother since my mouse is permanently attached to my hand? I like to use keyboard shortcuts, especially if someone is watching me, because they make me look like a pro. With just a few key strokes I can leave a mouser spinning his wheel! Whatever your motivation, here's a big list of keyboard shortcuts:
GENERAL SHORTCUTS ALT- F4 - Quit a program / Shut down ALT-TAB - Hold down the ALT key and hit tab to cycle through open windows. CTL-ESCAPE - Display the Start menu SHIFT - TAB - tab backwards through a form CTRL - X - Cut CTRL - C - Copy CTRL - V - Paste F1 - Help menu CTRL - Z - Undo SHIFT & Restart - To restart just windows and not your whole computer, hold down the shift key when you click the OK button on the shutdown screen. Saves lots of time. (not for XP) CRTL-TAB - Navigate tabs on a tabbed screen
FILE & DESKTOP SHORTCUTS Hold SHIFT while inserting a CD - Prevents the CD from "autorunning" If an item is selected: CTRL while dragging a file - Copies the file CTRL - SHIFT while dragging a file - Creates a shortcut to the file SHIFT - DELETE - Deletes an item without sending it to the recycle bin. ALT-ENTER - Display a file's properties. F2 - To rename the file In Windows Explorer: LEFT ARROW - Collapse the current selection if it is expanded NUM LOCK-MINUS SIGN (-) - Collapse the selected folder RIGHT ARROW - Expand the current selection if it is collapsed -Or- Select the first subfolder NUM LOCK- * Expand all folders below the current selection NUM LOCK- PLUS SIGN (+) - Expand the selected folder F6 - Switch between left and right panes In My Computer: BACKSPACE - View the folder one level up ALT- RIGHT ARROW - Move forward to a previous view ALT- LEFT ARROW -Move backward to a previous view
INTERNET BROWSER SHORTCUTS For Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 7 (may work in older versions) Open History Window Ctrl+H Reload Ctrl+R Back (Previous Page) Alt+Left Arrow or Alt+Backspace Forward (Next Page) Alt+Right Arrow Stop Esc Home Alt+Home Go to Bottom of Page End Go to Top of Page Home New Window Ctrl+N Close WIndow Ctrl+W Go Up one Line Up Arrow Go Down One Line Down Arrow Full Screen (toggle) F11 Find on Page Ctrl+F Add Current Page to Favorites Ctrl+D Print Current Page or Active Frame Ctrl+P Organize Favorites (IE)/ Manage Bookmarks (NS) Ctrl+B Maximize a Window Alt+Space+x Minimize a window Alt+Space+N Scroll page up Alt+Up Arrow Scroll page down Alt+Down Arrow
Internet Explorer ONLY Open Favorites Bar Ctrl+I Select text in address bar Alt+D
Force Reload (not from cache) Ctrl+F5
A faster way to type in addresses with IE is to just type in the name of the site:worldstartand hit CTRL + Enter. The "http://www. " and ".com" will be added for you! Netscape ONLY Open / Close Sidebar Panel (toggle) F9 Select text in Location Bar Ctrl+L Force Reload (not from Cache) Ctrl+Shift+R Zoom Text Smaller Ctrl+- (minus) Zoom text larger Ctrl+= (plus sign)
WINDOWS KEY SHORTCUTS The Windows key can be used in conjunction with other keys to act as a keyboard shortcut for faster access to menu commands. Now, while the Alt key tends to open program menus (ex: Alt+F opens the File menu and Alt+E opens the Edit menu) and the Ctrl key performs actual operations (ex: Ctrl+C will copy and Ctrl+V will paste), the Windows key will open various Windows tools... Win key + R will open the Start menu's Run box Win key + F will open the Start menu's Find window Win key + E will quickly launch Explorer Win key + Pause/Break will open the System Properties window Win key + M will Minimize all windows Win key + Shift + M will undo Minimize all windows Win key + D will switch between minimizing all open programs and showing them all Win key + Tab will cycle through items on the taskbar Win key by itself will open the Start menu You can also open programs or folders on your desktop by pressing the Windows key + the first letter of the program/folder/shortcut + Enter . Sounds kinda tedious, but if you're in a bind with your mouse, it can come in quite handy. ARROW TRICKS Here's a cool little arrow trick to try with word processing programs. Next time you're using your arrow keys to go from one area of a sentence to another (left and right arrows), hold down your CTRL key. Instead of moving one space at a time, you'll go one word at a time. If you're using the up and down arrows to go from line to line, holding down the CTRL key will make your cursor jump from paragraph to paragraph (well, from carriage return to carriage return anyway). One last thing, if you hold down the SHIFT key while you do this (i.e. hold down SHIFT + CTRL at the same time), you select text as you arrow along. I've tested this in MS Word and Wordpad, but it *should* work no matter what word processing program you use. HOME / END KEY FUN Do you ever find yourself scrolling through a huge folder ? Well, if you need to get to the beginning or the end quickly, just press Ctrl+Home . If you want to get to the end, click Ctrl+End. Hey, that's not all! This little trick works on more than just folders. If you use the Home key in a word processor, it goes to the beginning of the line you're currently working on. If you hit the END key, it should head to the end of the current line. If you pair Home & End up with the Ctrl key in a word processor, you will be whisked away to the beginning or end of the document. Again, this should work, but it depends on your word processor.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication)
Hello Dear Friends,
Have you ever need for a system where you can log in and read all the news you like to read from different sections of different Magazine, Newspapers, Online News Channels etc.... I know some of you got my point. For others let me explain with a example........Iam interested in Reading the Headlines of TOI, News from Infotech section of ET, Technology News of BBC, Education section of DNA, Job section of ET, Top news from CNN..........and many more and even few of Blogs posted by my friends...........And yes.all these without opening the sites of ET,TOI,BBCOnline or CNN etc.The technology is all these websites provides RSS (Really Simple Syndication) FEEDS for different section of their websites. So i need one aggregator, who will aggregate all the feeds of my choice.I just use RSS Viewer / Feeds Agregator to collect all the selected information of my choice from different website and show me in a single system. T hese Viewer or aggregator will collect updates in a regular interval and keeps me updated with latest happenings. It saves lot of time of mine; as i don't have to open number of websites for my different information needs. Hope you liked the idea. There are number of Aggregators or Viewers and some are free. At present iam using two such aggregators, which provides FREE RSS viewing facility.www.bloglines.comwww.reader.google.com Even i get one article related to RSS in Express Computer Magazine, which is posted below.RSS (Really Simple Syndication)What is RSS? Really Simple Syndication belongs to the family of lightweight XML (Extensible Markup Language) standards. RSS is designed to combine information from various Web sites in one place. It is a collection of XML-based Web content used by news Web sites, blogs, and podcasts for publishing on the Internet. How has RSS evolved?Dave Winer, the founder of Userland Software, designed his own XML format in 1997 for syndicating his scripting news weblog. RSS was created by Dan Libby in 1999 and was used on the My Netscape portal. The two RSS ancestries are RSS 1.0 that works in accordance by the set of rules described by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The RDF specification was released from RSS–DEV Working Group in 2000. RSS 2.0 was released by Harvard Law School in 2003.How can you read RSS feeds?RSS readers collect news in the background at intervals. A user can subscribe to numerous feeds simultaneously and save time on finding information. RSS uses software to organise the RSS feeds to get updates automatically. The active Web reader reads RSS files, organises the RSS feeds, manages the updates, and monitors the changes on the Web site that the user has subscribed to. It also searches for information. The automatic procedure to search for information on behalf of the user saves time for him as he need not visit each Web site individually. It also enables the user to avoid advertisements, menus, etc. The reader displays information in a human readable format. A powerful RSS reader built into the Mozilla Firefox browser is known as the Live Bookmark feature. RSS files have different extensions like .XML, . RSS and .RDF. Is there a licenced version of RSS?Licenced RSS 2.0 is offered by the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at the Harvard Law School. The author of this document is Dave Winer. What's the technology used in RSS?To enable RSS, six essential technologies are used: Aggregator Engine, MyST-X Scripting Engine, MgST Persistence Service, My Smart Channels, MyST XSL Transformation Service and MyST Click Director. These provide specific support to the RSS that contains up to 15 items parsed using Perl, Java and other open source software. RSS gathers information from multiple channels at one place called Aggregator. Aggregator Web sites share common goals. One of the major advantages of RSS feeds is that it makes the content from various pages available at one place. RSS also provides tools and solutions to the user to customise feeds and minimise integration efforts. It is mainly used to subscribe to weblogs and news Web sites, and can also be used to attach multimedia files. Web sites like BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet and many more are among its users. RSS is adopted on weblogs such as scripting.com. Many Web sites have discovered that RSS and XML can easily promote traffic to their sites and are switching over to this technology. — Thanks Garima Grover For more information visit www.newarchitectmag.com/archives/2000/02/eisenzopf/

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELLPHONE COULD DO
THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELLPHONE COULD DO There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: - 1 EMERGENCY* The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112 .* If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you,and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. **Try it out.** 2 Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). 3 Hidden Battery power Imagine your cell battery is very low , you are expecting an important call and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time. 4 How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. 5 Be careful while using your mobile phone When you try to call someone through mobile phone, don't put your mobile closer to your ears until the recipient answers. Because directly after dialing, the mobile phone would use it's maximumsignaling power, which is: 2watts = 33dbi Please Be Careful, Message as received (Save your brain) Please use left ear while using cell (mobile), because if you use the right one it will affect brain directly.
Value of parents...
An 80 year old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 years old highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window. The Father asked his Son, "What is this?" The Son replied "It is a crow". After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, "What is this?" The Son said "Father, I have just now told you "It's a crow". After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time, What is this?" At this time some ex-pression of irritation was felt in the Son's tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff. "It's a crow, a crow". A little after, the Father again asked his Son the 4th time, "What is this?" This time the Son shouted at his Father, "Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times 'IT IS A CROW'. Are you not able to understand this?" A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary :- "Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time h e asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child". While the little child asked him 23 times "What is this", the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed. So.. If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents. From today say this aloud, "I want to see my parentshappy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me. They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today". Say a prayer to God, "I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave.
